Imajen was founded in the summer of 2000, with a clear goal in mind: Create unique and original stories and intellectual properties featuring people of color, and Black people in particular, in effort to provide cultural perspective and counterpoint to the never-ending assault of negative messages and stereotypical imagery related to people of color, and Black people in particular.
Our idea has always been to fill the much neglected, grand canyon sized void, that presently exists between how mainstream media and Hollywood views and portrays Black people, and the way that many Black productions portray us after having been influenced(brainwashed) by mainstream media and Hollywood for countless generations.
Imajen operates and develops from a mindspace where creativity, intelligence, and honesty are celebrated, devil’s advocacy, counterpoint, and debate are practiced, and where historical and cultural perspective is always weighed into the equation for checks and balance.
